Let’s talk about social proof.
Opinion #4: Social Proof Needs a Human Face
The most overused element in modern web design is the logo wall. It’s treated like a magic trust spell, just drop in a few recognizable brands and boom, credibility.
Except… I don’t trust it. At all.
I get why people use them. They’re familiar and they give a quick shorthand: “Hey, we’ve worked with these folks.”
But after a decade of watching people buy their way into TechCrunch, Forbes, and half of the internet just to slap a badge on their homepage, the illusion kind of wore off for me.
A logo is just a symbol. It doesn’t tell you whether the company genuinely loved working with you, whether they even remember you, or whether the “work” was a five-minute email exchange from 2017. There’s no real accountability in it.
I trust people. A logo doesn’t have a face, which means it can’t offer any accountability. A real testimonial with a name, a photo, and a story can.
So social proof absolutely works, but it works best when it’s humanized. If you’re going to use social proof, don’t just rely on a wall of logos. Add real faces, real quotes, and always anchor them with genuine human stories. That’s how you create social proof that’s actually trustworthy.
