Secondary Nav Glow-Up

JANUARY 10, 2025

Hey friend,

Welcome to the new year! Let’s get into 5 new things I think you should know about.

#1 New Secondary Nav Plugin

Purchase | Demo

Secondary Nav Plugin

We’ve updated our secondary Nav plugin with a whole host of new features, a simplified installation process, and better architecture. You can now add dropdowns, have multiple secondary navs, and have more layout options. Check out the demo video on instagram or Youtube, and poke through our demo website here.

#2 Will-Myers in 2024, by the numbers

We did a lot in 2024. Check out this fun, and admittedly self-serving, roundup of what we did in 2024, by the numbers (not revenue though, my mother says its impolite to discuss money). Wouldn’t have been nearly as fun without the people I get to work with everyday, so thank you Abi, Jake, and Ren!

#3 Design Trend Duds & Inspo Websites

Maxi Best Of

It’s the beginning of the new year, so get ready for all of the “Design Trends for 2025” articles. I’ve never really found them helpful, to be honest, most of them are full of fluff, no substance. Earlier in my career, I think I wanted some direction out of these articles, but I personally find inspo websites like MaxiBestOf, CodePen Trending, and shadcn (for component ideas) more inspiring. In the age of AI, honing your own design sense, separate from the “Top Design Trends of 2025”, is important. Curious to know if you enjoy these articles.

#4 Here comes (good) AI Video

Veo 2

AI video has come a long way from the ridiculous (and kinda upsetting) Will Smith eating spaghetti video. Accordingly, Google released Veo 2, and it seems better than OpenAI’s Sora (granted, Veo2 isn’t publicly accessible yet and Sora is). Lots to unpack here, but to keep it short:

#1 don’t bet against Google in the AI space
#2 the real / fake video divide is blurring even more
#3 AI video is a thing, start playing around with it

#5 Somewhat Useful Podcast

Somewhat Useful Podcast

Christy and I are kicking off the new year with a new episode of our Somewhat Useful podcast. We kick off with a little banter about our “word” for the New Year, then jump into a great conversation with Omari Harebin. Omari has been a staple of the Squarespace Community for over a decade. He built and runs SQSPThemes, and just released a his memoir: The Corporate Dropout.

Big shoutout to our sponsor this season, Weglot! THE BEST no-code website translation solution for Squarespace. Use discount code SOMEWHAT15 to get 15% off an annual subscription this year.

Well that’s all from me today, hope you all have a happy new year!

Keep Building,
Will
