Hey friend,
The other night I was listening to Lex Fridman interview Jeff Bezos on his podcast. It was a really interesting listen — if you happen to have 2 hours to spare. Towards the end of the interview, Fridman commented that Bezos was one of the “most productive humans in the world", and asked him what his mornings usually looked like.
Like most people, I’m curious about the routines and habits of successful people, even though the advice they offer usually feels unrelatable, if not downright miserable. I was expecting Bezos’s morning routine to fall somewhere on that spectrum of unrelatable-to-miserable and assumed his answer would go something like this:
“Wake up at 4am, jump into an ice-cold shower, work out for 2 hours, meditate for an hour, read a book, write down your top 3 goals for the day, make a list of 10 things you’re grateful for, clean out your inbox, clean out your closet, re-tile your bathroom, grab your first coffee of the day, and then buckle down and get to work by 8am sharp.”
As an aspiring morning person (who secretly hates the mornings), I was pleasantly surprised and felt somewhat validated when, instead of outlining yet another powerhouse morning blueprint packed with intense exercise routines, meditation sessions, and a series of daily goal-setting, Bezos answered that in the mornings, he usually just… putters.
From the podcast:
Lex Fridman
(01:54:49) What’s a perfectly productive day in the life of Jeff Bezos? You’re one of the most productive humans in the world.Jeff Bezos
Well, first of all, I get up in the morning and I putter. I have a coffee.Lex Fridman
Can you define putter?Jeff Bezos
I slowly move around. I’m not as productive as you might think I am. Because I do believe in wandering and I read my phone for a while. I read newspapers for a while. I chat with Laura and I drink my first coffee. So I move pretty slowly in the first couple of hours.
So, there you have it folks — from now on you’ll find me following the Bezos Morning Method, moving slowly and puttering around with my coffee to start the day strong. If adopting this morning ritual doesn’t 10x my productivity, then at least I’ll be well-rested, more pleasant to be around, and enjoy my days a little bit more.
Keep Building,
Will

New Tutorial: Slowing Down the Fade Transition in a Squarespace Gallery Slideshow

Create a slower cross-fade transition on your gallery section. And yup, it works in Firefox. This is a niche problem, but the cross fade is super quick for the gallery section. This tutorial shows you work-around to slow down the transition using CSS Animations instead of the transition property.
