It’s been an eventful week over at the Will & Ren household!
I finished a lesson on Flexbox for my Learn CSS for Squarespace course on Friday (yay). My neighbors house caught on fire on Monday (boo). No one is hurt, which is a miracle, but now we’re fostering his two cats… in addition to our two dogs… in an 800sqf condo 🥲.
Squarespace released an entirely new SECTION type for Squarespace 7.1 websites. It’s a List Section and gives you the options to build some pretty cool things. You can find a pretty extensive write up I just published on this in the links below.
While this new List Section will definitely cannibalize some of the sales of my sliding banner image plugin, I think having this type of functionality natively built into Squarespace is a fantastic thing for the Squarespace ecosystem as a whole. Plus, there’s a bunch of extra design flexibility and functionality that my plugin offers that Squarespace’s doesn't (comparison chart here), so it’s still a great tool for power-users.

Prevent Cropping on Background Images - New Tutorial about keeping the aspect ratio of your background image for a section. I’ve also implemented this as a setting in an update for my Sliding Image Banner plugin in case you want to keep your images the correct aspect ratio.
Google Suite URL Shortcuts - Here’s a cool tip for Google Suite power users. If you navigate to the URL sheets.new it will immediately open up a new Google sheet. Same with docs.new. More power user tips like this on my Instagram (@willdashmyers)!
Split Sections Plugin Alignment Issue Fix - For anyone who has purchased my split sections plugin, I have a critical update for you. Squarespace has adjusted some of their CSS, which has messed with the alignment of sections. It’s an easy fix though, I’ve added a page on my website with some copy-and-paste CSS to fix the issue.

It’s not a Squarespace website, but it’s great for inspiration. It’s beautifully designed, yet nothing is over-the-top. The web designer's use of alignment and space is fantastic. LEARN CSS IN SQUARESPACE - NEW LESSON
I have just launched a new lesson in my CSS Course, all about Flexbox. Flexbox is a part of CSS that allows you to lay out items within a container that gives you full control over how space is distributed and items are aligned. In this lesson we’re going to work our way up to building a features component (specifically one that looks similar to what I have on my video plugin sales page).
This is immediately available for all students who are already enrolled in my Learn CSS in Squarespace course.
